Weight Loss is More Than Looking Better

Tags: , , , , ,

There are more benefits to weight loss than just looking better. Presently in the United States there

are 130 million people that are either overweight or

obese. Losing weight simply comes down to eating the

right foods and incorporating a daily exercise program.

Weight loss is really hard to achieve by yourself. It takes encouragement, support, and a community of like-minded folks who are determined to make a difference.

Weight loss is extremely difficult when you feel like you are depriving yourself. Instead of being a positive and exciting experience, losing weight becomes a struggle against yourself. Weight loss is the major focus of the many people nowadays.

Being fat or having huge body seems losing their self confidence and could sometimes disturb ones peaceful world. Weight loss is of course, not something that merely happens overnight.

You can take pills, go on a crash diet, or deprive yourself of your favorite dessert, only to realize that you are only gaining back the weight that you want to shed off.

Weight loss is a big business. People are willing to do anything to drop a few pounds. Weight loss is not easy to achieve and can add to a person’s level of stress.

One must be very motivated, disciplined, patient, have a weight loss plan, be able to follow specific and realistic daily and weekly goals, and be honest with oneself.

Weight loss is simple, burn more calories then you consume. If you can fully understand that then you are on your way to losing weight.

Dieting requires present-moment frustration and self-denial with little immediate reward. Diets fail because people have not mentally prepared themselves for physical change (mind before body).

Dieting alone can help you lose weight. Cutting 250 calories from your daily diet can help you lose about half a pound a week: 3,500 calories equals 1 pound of fat.

Dieting alienates us from the natural process of hunger and sets us up for the real physical side effects of dieting, resulting in women and men who have learned to ignore their own “survival mechanisms” and literally starve and binge themselves to death.

Current estimates indicate that one in five women is suffering from a severe form of an eating disorder, and eight out of ten have some of the symptoms of one or more of these illnesses. Dieting is a major industry, with so many different plans and programs for sale.

However, by living a healthy lifestyle, you don’t need to take drastic measures to lose weight and indeed, you don’t need to splash out on any fad diet plan. Diets claiming that eliminating carbs all together is the key to weight loss tend to be swimming with saturated fat and are often deficient in nutrients.

Some of these diets restrict the amount of fruits and vegetables that you eat which in many cases is not the

best choice for your overall health.

Diets that promise fast weight loss with hardly any effort don?t give you the skills you need to maintain your weight loss; in some cases, these quick fix weight loss routines can even be seriously detrimental to your health.

Most weight loss experts will explain that losing weight is not just about dieting. Dieting may conjure up visions of eating little but lettuce and sprouts–but you can enjoy all foods as part of a healthy diet as long as you don’t overdo it.

To be successful at losing weight, you need to change your lifestyle–not just go on a diet, experts say. Diet pills generally come in two forms – appetite suppressors and lipase inhibitors. Appetite suppressors interact with hunger signaling chemicals in the brain.

Diets such as the Atkins diet or Zone diet suggest people eat more protein and fat while restricting carbohydrate to lose weight. Others, like those on a vegetarian diet, abandon meat altogether.

It is important to remember that diet pills should not be

taken by people with underlying health problems. Dieters that make extreme changes to their diet to lose weight will soon tire of the restrictions and gain the weight back and sometimes even more.

Fad diets also contribute to many health problems including gallstones, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

The research on herbs by clinical physiologists led to the formulation of healthy herbal supplements that boast of the mechanism of reducing weight naturally. The herbal weight loss products include patches, pills, injections and other supplements. Many herbal weight loss products are marketed with the claims of being highly effective. For thousands of years herbs have been used for medicinal

purposes and has been proven to benefit our health. Herbs are plant or a part of a plant that are applied in medicine for its curative properties.

Discount Dental Plans or Dental Insurance – Which is Better?

Tags: , , , ,

Looking for dental coverage? Want to know if a discount dental plan or dental insurance would be best for your needs? Here are the answers.

Dental Insurance Plans

Dental insurance pays your dentist when you have dental procedures done. It usually pays for preventative care like cleanings and checkups, but only pays 50 to 80 percent of the cost of other dental procedures.

Deductibles – the amount you pay before your insurance pays for a procedure – vary from $50 to $150 per year. Most companies also have a yearly ceiling (the maximum amount they will pay per year) which varies from $750 to $2,000.

Average premiums for one person start at $150 a year and go up to $600 or more per year.

After you purchase dental insurance there is usually a waiting period before you can have services performed. It can be three months before you can receive preventive care such as cleanings and exams, twelve months before you can have a filling or tooth extraction, and twenty-four months before you can get a root canal, crown, or dentures. Most plans do not cover cosmetic dental procedures.

Discount Dental Plans

A discount dental plan gives you access to dentists in your area who have agreed to perform dental procedures a discount. These discounts vary from 10% to 60% depending on the type of work done.

Fees to join a discount dental plan start at $79.99 a year for a single person and $129.99 a year for a family. Most of these plans cover all dental procedures, including cosmetic dentistry, and are available to individuals, families, businesses, and groups.

Discount dental plans have no deductibles, no yearly ceilings, no waiting periods, and no health restrictions. You can sign up for a dental plan today, and get dental work done tomorrow.

Healthy Eating Guide: 5 Ways to Lead Your Family to Better Health

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Is healthy eating a problem in your home?

It can be difficult to encourage your partner and kids to make healthier choices.

But, having the right attitude can make a huge difference in how your family reacts, and subsequently whether they choose to eat healthy food, or not.

Here are 5 tips for getting your family to eat healthier:

#1 Ask them what they want
Find out what foods your family enjoys or what new recipes they would like to try, and then offer these often. If the suggestions are somewhat unhealthy, simply find out how to make a healthier version.

#2 Make gradual changes
Making small changes, one step at a time, is much more effective in the long run than trying to change everything at once.

#3 Make healthy food easily accessible
If chocolate chip cookies are the only ‘easy’ food available, that’s what they’re going to choose. So, if you want your family to eat healthy food make sure they have a supply of wholesome, ready-to-eat foods, for example:

Healthy granola bars

Fresh fruit salad

Frozen fruit, such as bananas, grapes or berries

Fresh fruit smoothies

Raw veg such as carrots, celery, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, and red peppers served with reduced fat hummus, or peanut butter.

Mixed, unsalted nuts

#4 Subtly add healthier ingredients
Try these suggestions:

Add cinnamon, chopped apples, and raisins to oatmeal.

Puree vegetables, finely chop, or grate them to disguise in baked goods, curries, stews, sauces etc.

Choose whole grain breads, muffins, and pasta where possible.

Try using wild rice rather than white.

Add peas, beans and lentils to soups, stews, and curries.

Serve leaner meats such as turkey, chicken, beef, and fresh fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna regularly.

#5 Be their role model
You can have a huge impact on your partner and kids by simply following your own advice, but be careful not to aggravate them in the process! Leading by example, is much better than preaching at them constantly.

Better Sleep in May: Improving Senior Health Care

Tags: , , , , ,

Elected “Better Sleep Month” by the Better Sleep Council, this May is the official month to improve all areas of our sleeping lives. Though many don’t realize it, getting a good night’s sleep is vital to our ability to function properly throughout the day. Lack of sleep or interrupted sleep can eventually lead to deterioration of the body and mind. Children, teenagers, adults, and seniors can all suffer the consequences of a poor sleeping pattern. Therefore, it’s important to assess your sleep on a regular basis, and take the right steps toward consistently obtaining better rest.

As we grow older our schedules change and our sleep patterns modify along with them. Because of this reason, seniors are very susceptible to sleep disorders. Since May is “Better Sleep Month”, many senior service groups are promoting senior health care and better sleep by doing their part to inform seniors about the intrinsic risks of deprived sleep, and how to develop an effective sleep plan.

Improving on Sleep

Sleep deprivation can be detrimental to your general health. Fortunately, there are a variety of options that can help you improve your sleeping habits. Good health, a satisfactory environment, consistent schedule, and many other factors can contribute to a great night of sleep. Below are a few suggestions to help you achieve better, more consistent sleep:

Ø Purchase a New Mattress – Though it is often ignored, purchasing a new mattress can do wonders for a good night of sleep. Old mattresses with sags, tears, and other general maladies can interrupt an otherwise comfortable night of sleep. Senior health care professionals agree that, as our bodies grow older and lose the ability to handle stress, it is good practice to purchase a new mattress every 5-7 years.

Ø Schedule – Do not underestimate the benefits that a regular sleeping schedule will have on your body. Try performing a similar routine before you go to bed every night. This routine will alert your body to begin producing the proper chemicals that prepare the mind and body for sleep.

Ø General Health – As one of the most important aspects of daily life, general health is also vital for sleep, too. Proper diet and exercise, as well as finding ways to reduce stress on a daily basis, can help your sleep cycle tremendously.

Ø Environment – Your sleeping environment should be as simple as possible. Dark environments with a comfortable temperature are best for sleeping. Even the tiniest bit of light may interrupt your sleep cycle, so don’t use your bedroom for work or other activities that might produce light and disrupt your sleep.

Ø Stimulants – Before bedtime, steer clear of stimulants such as cigarettes, caffeine, or alcohol. These can upset your sleep cycle, and cause sleep disorders.

The Inherent Risks of Sleep Deprivation

At first glance, the only consequence of a meager night’s sleep would be feeling drowsy the following day, which you might combat with a cup of strong coffee. However, the consequences of a consistently deprived sleep schedule are much more serious. Some of these consequences include:

Ø Mood Disorders

Ø High Stress Levels

Ø Memory Loss

Ø Irritability

Ø High Blood Pressure

Ø Heart Disease

Ø Diabetes

Senior Health Care and Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders are common among Senior Citizens. If you’re feeling tired during the day then it’s very possible that you may have one. While specially designed sleep clinics and other senior services will help monitor sleeping patterns to diagnose a particular disorder, there are signs and symptoms you should be aware of:

Ø Sleep Apnea – Sleep apnea is an inherently dangerous sleeping disorder. Pauses in breathing occur throughout the night with sleep apnea, causing you to wake up periodically and diminish the quest for a good night sleep. Frequent awakening and louder than normal snoring are signs that you may have sleep apnea.

Ø Insomnia – Insomnia is very frequent in adults who are 60 and above, making it a major concern for many nursing homes and other senior health care service providers. Consult your doctor if you have trouble staying asleep or going to sleep since both are signs of insomnia.

Sleep and Alzheimer’s disease – Nursing homes and other senior health care services have begun focusing on the sleeping habits of those with Alzheimer’s disease and how to improve their rest and safety at night. Many who suffer from Alzheimer’s have erratic sleeping schedules and, often times, disorders which include insomnia, sleep walking, and other similar disorders.

Sleep disorders and other forms of sleep deprivation can become a serious health concern for people of all ages. Assess your sleep on a regular basis and make sure you’re getting proper rest at night.

Stephanie Rice has been dedicated to senior health care and senior services for 11 years. She works with a variety of long term senior health care facilities including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and Alzheimer’s Communities. Lately, she has been highly influential in the development of a website sharing extensive knowledge on senior health care, senior services, and nursing homes.

Dental Plans – a Better Option for Dental Care

Tags: , , , ,

Dental problems occur more often that we would like them to, and the problems originate in our childhood, for many of us, but also in the poor treatment that we provide for our teeth daily. Statistics speak of three quarters of the population not flossing their teeth as often as they should, and about twenty percent not even brushing their teeth twice a day, as recommended. Some floss and a decent toothbrush might help with some of our problems, but many of our dental problems need more than brushing and flossing regularly.

Unfortunately, low-cost dental treatment is rather difficult to find, and millions of pay are aware of how soaring it is to pay for private dentistry. Some of us are fortunate to have private dental cover included in the benefits offered by their employers. Although such dental insurance is technically covered by your employer, you will still have to pay a tax on it, but overall, it is cheaper than paying for private dental care yourself. Therefore, it wouldn’t hurt to investigate whether you can benefit from such protection from your firm, or the firm your spouse works for. Or, better yet, you could check out the dental plans available.

Such dental discount plans are totally affordable because you have to pay as little as $19.95 a month, and come with a series of benefits. For instance, these dental plans allow access to a network of almost 30,000 dental providers, meaning your options are extremely varied, and you get to choose what dentist you want within that network. Moreover, the dental procedures performed on you by such a dentist come with savings from 25% to 80%. The number of visits to the dentist is unlimited, and there is no waiting period before you can benefit from the dental plan, as opposed to dental insurance, which states that you have to wait for at least twelve months and not be able to treat a preexisting condition.

Other features of the dental plans include extra savings on special treatments such as oral surgery, gum treatment, braces, root canals or dental work for children; acceptance of ongoing dental problems; and knowing exactly what amount of discount you will pay.

A dental insurance focuses mainly on preventive dental care, which is why it doesn’t cover preexisting conditions. If you suffer from a condition that originates from before you bought the policy for your dental insurance, you will have to pay for it out of your own pocket, even though you are theoretically insured. Dental plans, however, come with fully included pre-existing conditions. Furthermore, these discount plans not only save you money on routine dental care, but also on major dental work such as braces, dentures, bridge work, etc.

How can you join one of these dental plans? It’s simple. All it takes is that you search your area for a dentist who is participating is such a dental discount plan, and pay the monthly fee to join the plan you have chosen, which, by the way, is a lot less than dental insurance.

The bottom line is that you have options when it come s to finding the best solution to cover the dental problems that you and your family might have. Once you have analyzed both dental plans and dental insurance, I’m sure you will agree that the former are the much better option.

A Better way to Improve Health and does not Cover the Dental

Tags: , , , ,

A number of doctors, dentists, researchers and other specialists have been actively seeking and making oral studies to determine the effects of oral hygiene, or lack thereof, can have on a person’s general health.

It is a fact that is becoming increasingly evident that there may be a direct connection between periodontal disease (chronic infection of the gums) and several other medical problems, some of which can be fatal. The researchers seem to agree that the overall health of a person may be directly related to health or unsafe conditions of the mouth of a person. It is believed that bacteria in the mouth can spread into the bloodstream, resulting in illnesses that may arise in the heart, lungs, arteries and other body parts.

Some people who wear dentures (false teeth) had to suffer with chronic infections of the gums and wounds inflicted by the loss to bad installation or dentures. Pain at these points should not be ignored because experts say they can progress to the point where it can cause more severe inflammation. Such infections can also lead to things such as a swelling in various parts of the body. In addition, the lining of artery plaque can be inflamed, blood clots can form and these can cause a stroke or a heart attack.

My wife and I wear dentures and higher as a result, we had two sores in the mouth, where the prosthesis in our rub the gums of a more uncomfortable. Like other denture wearers, who are reluctant to go to the dentist for the new prosthesis because it costs a lot of scratches made.

My wife went to the solution of simply bringing the prosthesis only to eat or go to church or other public places. She said: “Terry! There must be a better way!”

My solution was to say to her: “Yes dear.” Then I put my creativity, ingenuity and inventive talents to work to try to imagine – invent – a better way to resolve this potentially costly and possibly life-threatening “mouth” problem once and for all.

After much study, research, trial and error and experimentation I created what I now call my line of teeth Weber kit. (Patent Pending) This do-it-yourself kit is always a soft, moldable compound finger or dial that adheres to the inside of the denture acrylic. The line of compounds, which requires no mixing, is long lasting and easily replaceable at home – without having to go to a dentist. This low cost, saving money denture liner kit makes any teeth, or cuts the top, much more comfortable and better equipped than ever.

Of course, another obvious benefit is peace of mind of a user of the Weber line of teeth is to know your overall Oral Health is much better control. Also, because there are more teeth caused mouth sores, can not be the most welcome again pleased to be able to eat comfortably.
